New Global Health Analysis Reveals Americans have Fewer Food Allergies than Britons, according to Beyond Body Data

A new global health analysis suggests a large number of Americans are allergic to dairy but don’t realize it. The data also shows the British have nearly twice the rate of lactose intolerancethan Americans, Australians and the French.

The health data was compiled by the new wellness book, Beyond Body, which integrates health analytics to create a personalized wellness plan based on the reader’s health and allergies. The analytics are derived from 28 personalized questions readers answer for the book’s research.

The data involved more than 1.6 million people across the UK, US, France and Australia. It included 1.2 million Americans, 287,154 French, 84,414 Britons and 67,819 Australians.

Nutritionist and author, Christine Zalnieraite, says this data is helping people around the globe manage their allergies and lactose intolerance by giving them a personalized nutrition and fitness regimen based on their health conditions.

“This data suggests there are a lot more people suffering from lactose intolerance but they don’t realize it,” said Zalnierate. “Research suggests that roughly 36 percent of Americans have an allergy to dairy, so if only 4 percent say they experience it, this tells us that many people are suffering from lactose intolerance but aren’t doing anything to treat it.”

Lactose intolerance is a condition that prevents people from properly digesting lactose in dairy. It can lead to symptoms that include: Stomach pain, abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, nausea and vomiting.

The Beyond Body health analysis found that 8 percent of Britons say they are lactose intolerant, compared to 4 percent for Americans, Australians, and French.

“There is no one-size-fits-all guidebook to wellness, and each body works differently,” said  Zalnierate. “Our analytics are very detailed, allowing us to create meal plans around allergies, intolerances, and even food preferences, making it easier for people to follow a personalized health regimen.”

Food Intolerances Across the US, UK, Australia and France

The data analysis also found Americans and Australians have the highest percentage of nut allergies.

Roughly 25 percent of respondents in the US and Australia said they have some form of nut allergies, which is drastically more than public research suggests. Roughly 3 million Americans are believed to have nut allergies or 1.1 percent of the population.

Zalnierate said it’s very likely people are confusing nut allergies with another allergy and not realizing it.

“It’s so important to understand how our nutrition and what we eat impacts our body,” said Zalnierate. “This is where our analytics is truly revolutionizing the wellness industry. Never before have we integrated such personal analytics into a book. When people feel better with a nutrition or health plan, they’re more likely to stick to it.”

The data also found that 12 percent of French respondents and 15 percent of Britons say they have a nut allergy.

Beyond Body creates meal plans and recipes based on the personal analytics that are discovered during each reader’s assessment. For readers who are lactose intolerant or have food allergies, it includes recipes and meal plans designed around their allergies.

About Beyond Body

Beyond Body takes analytics from a reader's profile and creates a customized wellness plan for their overall health and desired body needs and body goals. It's the first hardcover book to integrate analytics into a customized wellness plan based on the reader's physical and mental health as well as their current conditions and health history.

Infosec Collaborates with CISA to Provide Free Tools to Help Organizations Fight Ransomware Attacks

CISA Ransomware Guide and Webinar to Help Address Growing Attack Vector

MADISON, WI, June 15, 2021 — Following several notable ransomware incidents in 2021, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the nation’s risk advisor dedicated to building the national capacity to defend against cyberattacks, and Infosec, the leading cybersecurity education company, are sharing no-cost resources to help businesses keep their organization secure.

Now more than ever, ransomware is a key challenge for organizations of all sizes, with 10% of all data breaches involving ransomware according to the Verizon Business 2021 Data Breach Investigations Report. The growing number of ransomware attacks has also brought a rise in payments and damages that can be detrimental to organizations and their clients. In 2020 alone, the average ransom paid for organizations increased from $115,123 in 2019 to $312,493 in 2020, a 171% year-over-year increase.

With an exponential increase of ransomware attacks in the past five years, these attacks and degree of damages show no signs of slowing. To address the growing need for cybersecurity training and ransomware response resources, CISA has published a free Ransomware Guide and collaborated with Infosec Institute to host a webinar on available resources and tactics.

“Education is one of the most powerful weapons against ransomware. CISA knows that not everyone has the same resources to prevent and fight ransomware threats, which is why we’ve made it our mission to make these tools widely available and accessible to help organizations stay a step ahead,” said Amy Nicewick, section chief of communication management at CISA.

In a free session on June 24, Amy Nicewick will join David Stern, CISA SLTT partnership lead, to cover topics including the state of the ransomware threatscape, best practices in ransomware prevention and free tools and resources available to help organizations reduce their risk.

“The recent series of high-profile ransomware attacks presents the opportunity to have more conversations about what organizations and their employees can do to help prevent these types of attacks. These attacks also show that cybercriminals will target any type of organization if they deem it profitable,” said Jack Koziol, CEO and founder at Infosec. “The good news is that cybersecurity training and education goes a long way when it comes to preventing these types of attacks and protecting your organization’s data. We’re excited to team up with CISA to provide free tools to organizations and build awareness around cybersecurity.”

Infosec is also offering a number of free cybersecurity awareness training resources to help educate employees about risks and keep cybersecurity top of mind. From a wild west malware adventure to marine-life phishing education series, the free tools offer an engaging suite of education materials for organizations to leverage on the path towards inspiring secure employee behaviors.

To learn more about what free resources your organization can leverage to fight ransomware, attend the CISA and Infosec free webinar on June 24 at 11:00 a.m. CST. Click here to register.

New Requirements for Food Contact Materials and Articles in Brazil

Manufacturers and suppliers of food contact packaging, utensils, lids and metallic equipment are advised of Brazil’s amendments to its Technical Regulation.

Brazil’s Ministry of Health and National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) published Resolution of the Collegiate Board of Directors (RDC) No. 498 of May 20, 2021, on May 26, 2021. This amends RDC No. 20/2007 and transposes Mercosur’s GMC Resolution No. 16 of December 17, 2020, into Brazilian national law.

Among the changes brought in by the Resolution are:

  • Laser welding is now allowed in the manufacture of side seams in metal packaging
  • Section 3 ‘Positive List of Raw Materials for Packaging and Metallic Equipment’ updated with editorial and technical changes. These include:
    • ‘Polymeric coatings’
    • ‘Sealings or sealants’
    • ‘Surface lubricants’
    • ‘Restrictions’
  • Emphasizes that overall (total) and specific migrations for coated materials are to be carried out on the finished goods
  • Allows specimens of metallic substrates that are manufactured using identical conditions as the finished product for overall and specific migration
  • Clarifies that the overall migration limits are those that are established in the technical regulation corresponding to the type of coating used
  • ‘Determination of the specific migration of metals in tinplating packaging’ replaced with ‘Determination of the specific migration of metals in packaging, lids, utensils and metallic equipment not covered by Clause 4.1’

Finally, there are also new requirements on the use of simulants and sample preparation. These include:

  • Use of 0.5% (w/v) citric acid as simulant for the specific migration of metals from uncoated metallic materials that are intended for acidic foods (pH no greater than 4.5)
  • Use of artificial water as simulant for the specific migration of metals from uncoated metallic materials that are intended for non-acidic, alcoholic and fatty foods (0.5% (w/v) citric acid may also be used but subject to results meeting limits, otherwise artificial water)
  • Details the procedure from EN 16889:2016 for the preparation of artificial water
  • Indicates uncoated materials to be evaluated under the actual conditions of use where applicable, otherwise the following conditions are to be used:
    • 40 °C, 10 days for storage at room temperature
    • 70 °C, 2 h followed by 40 °C, 24 h for hot-fill and short-term storage (less than 24 h) at room temperature.
    • 70 °C, 2 h followed by 40 °C, 10 days for hot-fill and long-term storage (more than 24 h) at room temperature.
    • Boiling temperature of simulant, 2 h for boiling conditions

Resolution No. 498 of May 20, 2021, came into force on June 1, 2021. Stakeholders have until November 27, 2021, to comply with its provisions.
