New Qi 1 3 Wireless Charging Reference Design Unveiled to Accelerate Development of Automotive and Consumer Qi Transmitter

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has recently released the Qi 1.3 specification that requires authentication for improved safety when transmitting up to 15W of power between a transmitter and a receiver.

To meet the requirements of the specification, Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP) announced today a new Qi® 1.3 wireless charging reference design providing developers of wireless charging systems for automotive and consumer applications with the necessary tools and support for the seamless integration and certification of new-generation product designs.

For wireless charging system developers launching certified Qi 1.3 transmitters under tight timelines, Microchip’s three-coil Qi 1.3 reference design provides a head start for product development. The reference design fully integrates secure storage subsystem software with the wireless power microcontroller (MCU) and is a flexible solution, enabling custom topologies and foreign object detection (FOD) implementation.

As a regular member in the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), which sets global standards for wireless charging of mobile devices, Microchip provided expertise during development of the recently released Qi 1.3 specification. Qi 1.3 is a significant update from Qi 1.2.4 and mandates hardware-based authentication between transmitter and receiving devices for power transfer above 5W. By adhering to the new authentication standard, designers can ensure phones receiving 15W are receiving it from a Qi-certified authenticated transmitter to ensure safety.

“Wireless charging makes it easy and convenient for consumers to charge devices and, as a result, demand for these systems in the automotive and consumer segments is on the rise,” said Joe Thomsen, vice president, MCU16 business unit. “Microchip’s Qi 1.3 reference design, tools and support help engineers to meet rapidly evolving development requirements and enable easy certification of the new Qi 1.3 transmitter designs, speeding time to market and easing end-product certification.”

Included in Microchip’s reference design solution for wireless charging systems are all required elements: Qi controller, Qi application software, provisioned authentication controller that is a WPC-approved secure storage subsystem and crypto software libraries that execute on the Qi controller. The reference design includes complete schematics, bill of materials, software and design guidelines. Microchip is partnering with Avnet to make evaluation boards for the Qi reference design available to qualified customers around the world.

To support its Qi 1.3 wireless power solution, Microchip provides the dsPIC33C family of devices to run the Qi application software and the ECC608/TA100 secure storage subsystem provisioned by Microchip as a licensed WPC Manufacturing Certificate Authority. Crowdswap the worlds first price search engine for cryptocurrencies launches

St. Katharinen, Rhineland-Palatinate (release-news ) June 30, 2021 - The trading of cryptocurrencies in so-called decentralised financial markets (DeFi), which are based on blockchains and smart contracts, is rapidly growing via the almost 70 decentralised cryptocurrency exchanges (so-called DEXes) into a new form of global finance. Already today, around 2,000 cryptocurrencies or coins/tokens are traded on the crypto exchanges - with a daily turnover of around USD 5 billion, on some days up to USD 10 billion. In the last 6 years alone, the crypto market has grown by 45 000%; 450% since last May.

A big problem in the crypto market today is the lack of transparency regarding the different transaction costs in the various DEXes and the lack of insight into the fair price of a cryptocurrency in the respective crypto exchange.

For beginners in particular, this can mean that they have to pay up to 100% more for an exchange in cryptocurrencies than necessary. Even for experienced DeFi traders, it is almost impossible to get an overview with reasonable effort to get the best price for their swap.

The German start-up Crowdswap now solves this problem. It was founded by a mixed team of software developers from Germany and Iran. They are familiar with blockchain projects in the German energy industry and have spent a year developing best-price routing blockchain technology. With their system, which incorporates both the prices of cryptocurrencies and the associated transaction costs, they want to bring more transparency to the burgeoning global crypto market.

Transparency is also the thread that runs through the professional life of entrepreneur Christian Mülder, software developer, stock market trader and investor, and blockchain is the 100% instrument that makes this possible. As early as 2006, he was a co-initiator in the open source project B2B By Practice. The software is used by 60% of all German energy providers and realises the communication and mapping of processes of the German energy market with the help of a blockchain-like technology. His first company, which he sold in 2016, enabled him to get started as a trader and investor, and for him it was obvious from his own experience that transparency in the crypto market urgently needed to be established: "I was supposed to pay transaction costs of USD 100 when exchanging a coin worth USD 500. This was not communicated to me on the exchange. 20% in incidental investment costs is not acceptable. This gave me the idea to develop a price comparison for cryptocurrencies with my old comrades-in-arms," says Mülder.

Crowdswap goes live with its crypto price comparison app in a beta version in June 2021, available for exchanges of the 2 000 major cryptocurrencies on the Ethereum network on initially 5 of the major DEXes. Traders can compare crypto prices, swap directly across different DEXes, and Crowdswap promises significant cost savings when swapping cryptocurrencies.

Crowdswap displays all prices and costs that a crypto trader can expect in a 100% transparent way and calculates the total price that a trader has to pay for a currency swap.

In the beta phase, Crowdswap itself does not charge any fees; however, they are already displayed in the price comparison.

Microchip Boosts Gallium Nitride GaN Radio Frequency RF Portfolio with Ka band Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit MMIC with High Linearity for Sa

Satellite communication systems use complex modulation schemes to achieve the blazingly fast data rates required to deliver video and broadband data. To attain this, they must deliver high RF output power while simultaneously ensuring the signals retain their desired characteristics. The new GMICP2731-10 GaN MMIC power amplifier announced today by Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP) helps meet both of these requirements.

The new device, Microchip’s first GaN MMIC, is designed for use in commercial and defense satellite communications, 5G networks and other aerospace and defense systems.

The GMICP2731-10 is fabricated using GaN-on-Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology. It delivers up to 10W of saturated RF output power across the 3.5 GHz of bandwidth between 27.5 to 31 GHz. Its power-added efficiency is 20%, with 22 dB of small-signal gain and 15 dB of return loss. A balanced architecture allows the GMICP2731-10 to be well matched to 50-ohms and includes integrated DC blocking capacitors at the output to simplify design integration.

“As communication systems employ complex modulation schemes such as 128-QAM and as the power of solid-state power amplifiers (SSPAs) trends ever upwards, RF power amplifier designers have the difficult challenge of finding higher power solutions while at the same time reducing weight and power consumption,” said Leon Gross, vice president of Microchip’s Discrete Products Group business unit. “GaN MMICs used in high power SSPAs can achieve greater than 30% lower power and weight as compared to their GaAs counterparts, which is a huge gain for satellite OEMS. This product delivers on the promise of GaN and enables the size, weight, power and cost OEMs are searching for.”

Microchip’s GMICP2731-10 complements the company’s existing portfolio of GaAs MMIC RF power amplifiers, switches, low-noise amplifiers, and Wi-Fi front-end modules, as well as a GaN-on-SiC High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) driver and final amplifier transistors for radar systems.
