SGS Reviews the Impact of COVID on Wireless Technologies

SGS, the global leader in testing and certification services, looks at the impact of COVID-19 on the use of wireless technologies to help manufacturers capitalize on the growth being predicted in this sector.

Lockdowns caused by COVID-19 have caused work, education, communication, and entertainment to all become online pursuits. The US trade association for the wireless communications industry, CTIA, reports that since the start of lockdown, voice usage has increased by 12.2% and data usage by 28.4%. Similar increases in the use of wireless technologies are being reported all over the world.

In response to the increased demand for wireless services, the industry has deployed Wi-Fi hotspots, services in new spectrums, and continued the rolling out of 5G. This has created the capacity necessary to cover the increased demand for voice and data services, alongside the adoption of other mission critical applications and connected & automated vehicles (CAV).

Wireless technologies have also been used to mitigate the effects of COVID-19. Internet of Things (IoT) solutions are being used for contact tracing applications and a variety of technologies, including Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Wi-Fi and Sigfox, have been incorporated into bands and bracelets to help organizations return to some semblance of normality.

Smart technologies were already becoming a common part of the family home even before the pandemic and, with lockdowns, these labor-saving devices are helping to mitigate the stresses caused by being stuck at home. In what was already a robust market, a September 2019 report has estimated a compound annual growth rate of 14.4% for the next five years and it seems that COVID-19 has done nothing to curtail this growth. In fact the opposite may be true – it is predicted global shipments of smart home voice-control devices will rise by 30% in 2020.

Manufacturers seeking to capitalize on this sector growth need to be aware that consumers now demand more than mere regulatorily compliance from their products. They expect good battery performance, security, and easy connections to existing technologies. In addition, they are demanding products that support more frequencies to allow better capacity and coverage.

When developing new products, these considerations should be incorporated from the earliest design phases. Manufacturers must also include them into any comprehensive testing strategy that goes beyond regulatory compliance and covers advanced performance. Approaching product development in this way, allows manufacturers and suppliers to ensure their products will meet consumer expectations while expediating time-to-market.

COVID-19 has shown many consumers the advantages of wireless technology. The quick responses taken by the industry to ensure capacity meets demand, has allowed this sector to blossom, creating opportunities that manufacturers and suppliers will only be able to capitalize on if they adopt the correct approach to product development.

DPI’s award application highlighted the Acceleration Station™, an additive manufacturing service that delivers the fastest path to market. Although there are many facets to a winning go-to-market strategy, design changes, prototyping and building molds can delay a product launch. DPI’s Acceleration Station produces high-quality parts faster. These services, including the Carbon® Digital Light Synthesis™ (DLS™) additive manufacturing process, make production and prototype parts in days, not weeks, without tooling.

“We’re thrilled to receive this award because it recognizes the outstanding efforts of our employees in providing our customers with the support and tools they need to be more successful,” says Kevin Hogan, CEO of Diversified Plastics, Inc. “The Acceleration Station engineering and production team works closely with customers to save time and money by optimizing parts for digital manufacturing.”

The CarbonDLS additive manufacturing process is up to 100 times faster than traditional additive methods, and transforms product design and production. This technology allows manufacturers and engineers to explore what has been impossible to produce through conventional manufacturing, including articulating structures, part consolidation, variable wall thickness, sharp corners, surface textures and more.

MORBiZ Releases New Blog about Hiring a Marketing Agency vs an Employee

Every small business owner wears many hats as they plan, open and run their business. As growth occurs it is only natural to begin hiring to fill the roles the owner once had full control over. While some duties certainly require in house employees, there are other positions that you may consider to fill remotely with an agency, opposed to an in house employee. Internet marketing is likely one of those positions. MORBiZ offers the following reasons why an agency may be a better fit for your small or medium sized business.

Whole Team vs. Individual
When you hire an agency, you’re not just hiring one person. Agencies generally consist of a team of people who specialize in different areas, such as content, web design, app building and paid advertising, all of who will work together on your marketing efforts. While it is possible for one person to excel at all of these things and more, the cost of employing someone with that skill set could be very expensive, and chances are, they still won’t have the same capacity as an entire team.

Larger Tool Box
Speaking of capacity, when you hire an agency, you’ll have many web marketing tools at your fingertips that you may have never considered. At MORBiZ, we offer so much more than small business websites, though we do those very well. Our marketing agency can build custom small business mobile apps, conduct internet directory clean up services, social media marketing and even video marketing. The best part, the turnaround time to build these tools is very little compared to what it may take for an individual.

No Management Needed
When you hire an agency you can expect them to hit the ground running, and keep running and running and running. An agency will offer a hands-off approach to your marketing needs, without sacrificing the quality you want and deserve. Of course, the door (or phone or email inbox) is always open if you have certain requests for your web marketing campaign. This type of marketing means less time managing and more time focusing on sales and service.

Maximize ROI
The costs of hiring an individual marketing professional can be daunting. You need to consider salary, benefits, time off and so on and so forth. For an individual marketer to benefit your business, they need to be boosting your bottom line more than you’re spending to employ them. The same is true of course for an agency, but realistically, the upfront costs are much smaller, and the results often greater. For a small monthly fee you’ll see a return on your investment day after day, and year after year, nearly from the time you launch an agency Internet marketing campaign with MORBiZ. Hiring an individual may mean waiting a year or more before seeing a return on your investment at all.
